Savings are growing despite the Lower Interest Rate

savings2The fall of interest rates did not discourage savers in RS who deposited 177.3 million BAM in the banks in the first three quarters.

The average interest rate on term deposits in Republika Srpska was 2.29 % at the end of the third quarter, which is lower than in the same period in 2014 when it amounted to 2.49 %. The average interest rate on deposits was 0.14 %, which represent a decrease of 0.3 % compared to the same period last year.

According to the Agency for Banking of RS, the savings of citizens reached 1.97 billion BAM at the end of September, which is 9 % more than at the end of 2014. A total of 1.6 billion BAM referred to term savings.

Most of the citizens decided to save in foreign currency. There were 70.5 % of total savings, or 1.39 billion BAM, on the foreign exchange booklets at the end of September. Savings in foreign currencies were increased by 7 % in comparison to the end of last year.

Confidence in domestic currency is growing and savings worth 582.1 million BAM was realized at the end of the third quarter, which is more by 13% than at the end of 2014.
