Adam Dieng, a senior United Nations official and adviser to the UN secretary general, presented special awards to Sarajevo Mayor Abdulah Skaka and East Sarajevo Mayor Nenad Vukovic.

During his reception at the United Nations building in Sarajevo, Dieng emphasized the recognition of his contribution to co-operation, peace and dialogue through the successful organization of the European Olympic Youth Festival (EYOF).

Dieng explained that engagement of the two mayors was a strong message and a prime example in building peace and cohesion.

“You have brought together European youth and created an event that people in this country will remember forever,” Dieng said.

He also invited the two mayors to New York and said he would report to the UN Secretary-General on this positive example.

The mayors thanked and said that it is extremely important for them to be awakened with positive energy during the EYOF and showed that they are capable of organizing events on a world level, which is recognized worldwide.
