malicAbid Malic from Srebrenica is only 21 years old, but he already owns the cattle farm that he leads successfully. The farm was founded by his father who died a year ago, but Abid continued with the work. And, not only that he managed to keep his father’s farm, Abid is also improving the job every day.

“There is a lot of work in the village. People can often earn more money than in the city. Unfortunately, many of them do not want to accept it,” said Abid.

His family escaped from Srebrenica during the war in B&H. They returned to his native village of Pale in 2000, when they started with the breeding of cows and production of milk. They started with one cow, today they have ten.

Abid and his mother wake up at 6 am, when they go to stables, prepare food for the cows and milk them. When this is complete, Abid takes milk to Potocari, where purchase dairy is located, around 4 kilometers away from the farm. If it is summer, Abid will go later to collects grass for the cows. In the evening at 7 pm he goes again to the barn to milk the cows, and takes milk to Potocari again.

“My day starts at 6 am and ends at 8 pm,” says Abid.

His brother is currently attending school in Tuzla, but when he finishes school Abid is planning to introduce him with the job. Therefore he plans to expand stables soon. He is sure that it is better for the family to live on the family farm, than to seek for job elsewhere.

Besides cattle, Abid is also cultivating raspberries. He says that this is also a very profitable business.
